StraightJacket SerenadeA Poem by Dennis ShanabergWriters, they're all insane. As the writer of this one, I suppose I might be included.Listen to this My straight jacket serenade. Maybe one day All this crazy can get me paid, But till that day I’ll keep doing what it is I do For no one but me Especially not for you. The heathen. The heretic. Mad men--meet the madman. No one can understand What it is I’m thinking What the hell I’m tryin’ t’ say All for love or logic? Yes, no, maybe either way. Run from me please I tell every person that I meet. I’ve got madness That’d keep fifty shrinks up for weeks. Heart’s in the wrong place My head’s not on straight. You tell me that you like it But trust me, you just have to wait.
No, nothing less than-- The heathen. The heretic. Mad men--meet the madman. No one can understand What it is I’m thinking What the hell I’m tryin’ t’ say All for love or logic? Yes, no, maybe either way. Welcome to the interior of my mind. Far superior to those inferior of whom you might find. I’m so humble in my most enigmatic boasts. I’ll push you back out as your most gracious host. Let me scream my theories in the playhouse halls. Let me waste your time with late night bedroom calls. I once wrote my name in something that looked like blood. I then scrawled some Holy Scriptures with a rock in the mud. The heathen. The heretic. Mad men--meet the madman. No one can understand What it is I’m thinking What the hell I’m tryin’ t’ say All for love or logic? Yes, no, maybe either way. © 2012 Dennis ShanabergReviews
