Poverty Shall Never Vanquish'd Be, Until Great Sherwood Hoods to High Capitol Hill Shall Come

Poverty Shall Never Vanquish'd Be, Until Great Sherwood Hoods to High Capitol Hill Shall Come

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

You Can Change the Way the World Works, You're Just too Damned Lazy

"
The candidate will kiss your baby,
While the clergyman might kiss your son.
The corporate joe is everybody,
While the system f***s everyone.

F**k the police!
And the priest f***s your kids.
The pres’dent f***s your banker,
(And who’s next?)
Make some money and take some bids.

Have we learned nothing?
We are the massive majority.
You blame one percent,
But dear 99, this is how you let it be
With decades and years of apathy.
If you speak silence, then you choose to agree
But not with me.

Cuz I’m free.
Oh baby, I’m free.
Don’t be lazy.  Be free.
Free like me.

We control the system.
A machine can’t move without the gears.
Don’t sit back and listen.
TV tones have droned for too many years.
You are not one person.
Stand, be the leader, the voice of your peers.
We can stand together.
Don’t let this change succumb to your fears.

Stand now with me.
Be free.
And baby, be free.
It’s not crazy. Be free.
Free with me.

Robbing hooded, masked in black
As we give the old men a lethal heart attack.
Don’t steal their money with Sherwood schemes.
A simple boycott in Boston will have them seeing green.

Don’t pay to the man whose shipping overseas
Who overworks a boy at age thirteen.
Instead shell out a bit more cash
And buy from someone else, who’s not an a*s.
Their prices will fall as their demand will soar.
The other must meet our demands or lose his stores.
See, capitalistic change is within your reach,
But trust me that’s a chapter your school won’t teach.

Have we learned nothing?
We are the massive majority.
You blame one percent,
But dear 99, this is how you let it be
With decades and years of apathy.
If you speak silence, then you choose to agree
But not with me.

I’m free.
Oh baby, I’m free.
Don’t be lazy.  Be free.
Free like me.

Boycotts are a good idea and one that I, personally, have been preaching to people about. I thought of a complete "no show" day. Only essential employees show up for work. No money exchanges hands. 1/365th of an impact on the year; now, that's a statement. A "no show" could rally this country, in a big way, but would it work. Would the whining, complaining be able to do nothing, because trying to get them to do something isn't working. Just food for thought.

A great poem; particularly the lines reading "But dear 99, this is how you let it be!"

This poem is very honest, and very true.

I like the way you express yourself in the poem. We are led by wealth and oil. War and oil is the number one profit item for the USA. We must change or we all will fall in a deep hole with no exit. Average Joe need to take a stand before it is too late. Freedom is being taken from us daily. Need to fight for freedom and less government. Thank you for the amazing poetry. They are good words.
