In Darkness, Stained-Glass Can Only Shine If There's Light From Within

In Darkness, Stained-Glass Can Only Shine If There's Light From Within

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Remember.
Remember me.
Baby, even if you will never see me--
Because that is how it has to be--
Whether or not I choose to agree--
I promise you that you will always
Remember me.

Remember the kids that we named that night, when you have your own.
Remember me when you're all alone, when all those kids have grown.
Remember me when you're with him and how our kiss would never end.
Remember all the places we have been and if you only had known the plans I'd planned
Just before the end.

Now, I'm planning them for someone else
Who loves more than just those thoughts of love
And whose words are more than frauds and false.
Oh-they'll stay when the push will meet the shove.

Yup.  I feel like
You told me what you thought I'd wanted to hear
Things that would have filled me with such great fear
Before your f*****g fickle heart drew me so near and dear
And showed me all my flaws like a crystal light clear mirror.

The lies in your eyes--
So beautiful--
So full of deceit,
But those lies you couldn't hide.
The sty in your mind--
Wanted to help--
Wanted to save you--
(never enough)
For your mind was blind.

Just remember when you're forty-three
And stuck with your happy mediocrity--
A white picket fence and housewife friends
And household chores that never end--
That my dearest girl--oh--my darling baby
Oh yes--my dear, you could have been with me.

The lies in your eyes--
So beautiful--
So full of deceit,
But those lies you couldn't hide.
The sty in your mind--
Wanted to help--
Wanted to save you--
(never enough)
For your mind was blind.

The thing that I love the most
(that i really hate the most)
Oh yes--the thing that I love the most
Is how despite it all
With a short respite of time
Is how I want to love you again
And try to make you mine.

Wow, this poem was like reading someones diary from the first entree to the last. At first in your poem you were stating how much this person meant to you and then as I slowly read down it stated how you hated to love this person. This poem has great depth and raw feelings, and you have a wonderful way with words. Such as "For your mind was blind." and "A short respite of time" those two lines stood out the most but there were plenty others that I could say were pretty poetic also. Flawless write, FANTASTIC job!

Sometime we look at the world with anger. The poem is direct and honest words. Some questions must be answered by living. Life can be hard for the all of us. I like the story and the desire of this poem.
