Classic LiteratureA Poem by Dennis ShanabergAnother Old One I Never Uploaded
Classic Literature
I used to pick up girls With finely crafted pick up lines. Then, I graduated to using rhymes From classic literature. Pull out some of Darcy’s words And Hide, Jekyll, Hide Because I’m not all too pure. I’m nothing more than an average John-- A brave savage in this whole new world. Oh! You’ve got to understand my dear, That I don’t do that anymore. Have no fear, my dearest love, That I have indeed moved on. If you can stand this, then I can. Let the notes dance over the dark white sand. On film, murder is never a messy circumstance, But I’ve seen tiny rose-colored sleds That lead to painful, ugly happenstance. I try to hold her hand But frankly, she don’t give a damn. I’ve always flown up for the sun. I’ve always been fixed on my own reflection. I always thought I was greater than His Son. I’ve always thought this crazy winding path was in the right direction, But not anymore Oh no--my dear, no longer. The classic rhymes are all done Except for maybe this last one. © 2011 Dennis ShanabergAuthor's Note
