Films in the Fourth Dimension

Films in the Fourth Dimension

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

This is what filmmaking should be. Metaphorically.

"
In the theatre last night,
The movie was playing too loud for me to hear you.
You whispered a heart
But the movie was playing so loud, and the volume only grew.
Then, the plot thickened.
Everything was moving so fast, it seemed like we were with them.
And it got stranger.
As a an army soldier’s bullet sent from the aisle way went right through my hair.
I could feel the wind.
It was blowing the grass I’d seen moving on the giant silver movie screen.
You were holding my hand.
And everyone else missed the madness, they’re eyes glazed ‘neath the wide rimmed glasses.

Films in the fourth dimension.
Oh-Films in the fourth dimension.
Films in the four dimensions.
Get your glasses on.
Films in the fourth dimension.
Leave your glasses on.

There was a man in a tux,
Before he had a flashlight, but now he had some high-tech armband.
He ran to the soldier,
I grabbed the girl beside me as the gun went firing, and we ran.
Stopped at the open screen.
With the dust from the screenplay whipping past our skin.
And with a last look behind,
Me and the girl, good Lord, we jumped right in.

Films in the fourth dimension.
Oh-Films in the fourth dimension.
Films in the four dimensions.
Get your glasses on.
Films in the fourth dimension.
Leave your glasses on.

They all stared on,
Glasses on,
Not leaving their seats
As we ran into the silver screen.
Sticking to the streets,
We ran from the world that’s mean
To one that ends so happily.
Her hand in mine,
As we ran
To victory on the hill.
The wind and dust
Circled around us,
And the man in the tux
Fights with the soldier still.

Films in the fourth dimension.
Oh-Films in the fourth dimension.
Films in the four dimensions.
Get your glasses on.
Films in the fourth dimension.
Oh-Films in the four dimensions.
Films in the fourth dimension.
Oh-Films in four dimensions.
Leave your glasses on.
