The Search for Sunlight

The Search for Sunlight

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

"
Wake up.
See the sunshine.
It’s glowing out your door.
Wake up.
See the sunlight.
It’ll warm you to your core.

Let’s burn.
Let’s burn.
Like we did as kids
In the summer sun.
Let’s run.
Let’s run.
Like we did as kids
In the summer sun.

Even though winter hurts.
Even though the cold stings.
Even though ice bites.
Even though though the frost brings
Death to light
And the flowers can’t fight.

Wake up.
See the sunshine.
It’s glowing out your door.
Wake up.
See the sunlight.
It’ll warm you to your core.

Fire!
Fire!
Light!
Light!
Fire!
Fire!
Bright!
Bright!

The sun still shines after summertime;
You just have to look beyond the clouds.
The shadows have been a friend of mine;
Cuz they remind me that the sun must be around.

Let’s burn.
Let’s burn.
Like we did as kids
In the summer sun.
Let’s run.
Let’s run.
Like we did as kids
In the summer sun.

Wake up.
See the sunshine.
It’s glowing out your door.
Wake up.
See the sunlight.
It’ll warm you to your core.
