Hey, bird

Hey, bird

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

Jailbait and Jailbirds

"

Hey, bird.
Your jailbait, baby.
The jailbird
You make him crazy.

And he goes clang, clangin’
On the bars
With a metal plate, fate
He found never had a start.

Hey, bird.
Your jailbait, baby.
The jailbird
You make him crazy.

We take a stab in the dark.
And don’t ask for names.
None of this ever really has a start.
Not these unending games.
Bedside manner is not a needed quality.
But manners lost in bed are best found in quantity
As these notepad days
Go slipping away.

The government ran him down.
And he’s not the same.
Now, he sleeps alone on the concrete ground.
No one left to give the blame.
And he goes clang, clangin’
On the bars
With a metal plate, fate
He found never had a start.

Clang, clang.
Bang, bang.
Everyone these days is just one in the same.
Shame, shame.
Pass blame.
Everyone will do anything for some fame.
Clang, clang.
Bang, bang.
Everyone these days is just one in the same.
Shame, shame.
Pass blame.
Everyone will do anything for some fame.

Hey, bird.
Your jailbait, baby.
The jailbird
You make him crazy.

And he goes clang, clangin’
On the bars
With a metal plate, fate
He found never had a start.
