The Lost Metropolis

The Lost Metropolis

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

somewhat of an urban rhyme

"

Listen up, son
Before it’s all gone.
People don’t kill using guns.
No because they all sit at home
As they’re task bars load
Letting permutated functions run.
Killing with joysticks is too fun.

Now, I’m not down with killing for drugs
And I really don’t want my mama getting mugged.
But what kind of world do we live in
Where even the bad guys are too boring to do sin.
When every guy stays at home
Not dropping off his lady a rose.
Because everybody knows
There’s ladies online
Who have got the time
To take off their clothes
To make some dough
Just so long as mom and daddy don’t know.

This is a lost metropolis.
A medley of humanity kicked to the streets.
Check out the futility of all of this.
Why try when in the end we all are gonna die?
Lives have no living anymore.
Lives are to survive not to find the sublime.
On brave knights we’re running low.
The dark ones are gone before too long.
Oh-oh This is the lost metropolis.

What do we do when we find
That all this time
We’ve been overlooking crimes
That the leaders and rich men have had on their minds
And have been practicing
While we were to wrapped up in
The stupidity of the day to day
Forgetting all the hours that got away.
When we see something wrong
We don’t even care to say
Or write up a song.
To find a way
To make them pay.
