Dulcius ex asperis

Dulcius ex asperis

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

Through Difficulty Sweetness

"

I’m in need of some kind of head examination.

Put me under sedation
There’s too much going on in there for me
And when you pull all the bad parts out.
Just give out with a little shout.
And leave those bits there for me to see.

Because I’ve got a sandstorm
Winds pulling my brain apart.
Because I’ve got a thunderstorm.
It makes it too loud for me to think.
Oh-yeah, I’ve got a sandstorm
Winds pulling my brain apart.
And-yes, I’ve got a thunderstorm
It makes it too loud for me to think.

I’m a captain on the water simply needing a heading.
We’ll never see shore they’re betting.
There’s not a shore out there, not one for me.
I’ve already cast the anchor out.
I can only give out with a little shout.
And the grey clouds are all I can see.

Because I’ve got a sandstorm
Winds pulling my brain apart.
Because I’ve got a thunderstorm.
It makes it too loud for me to think
Oh yeah, I’ve got a sandstorm.
Winds pulling my brain apart.
I’ve also got a thunderstorm
That makes it too loud for me to think.

I’m thrown into the air.
I’m tossed up from the waves.
My brain shatters into a million pieces.
I’m thrown into the air.
Is there no one I can save?
These lives shattered into a million pieces.
Please let there be something.
Please let there be something.
Please let there be something.
Let there be somewhere for me.

You really captured a mood there, and then passed it on to the reader. I was riding the waves while reading this. Great poem.

I think this has some underlying messages to it and i love that fact. I think it can apply to a lot of people, which is a good thing to do as a writer.

I like the windstorm and sandstorm idea happening to your brain/head =]
