Favors for Friends

Favors for Friends

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

The last damned time, I swear it.

"

This is the last time
I think I'll do a favor
For a friend.
This is the last time
Because these favors
Always seem to end
With me running around,
Me calling around,
And getting nothing done.

But still I'll run
I'll run and run and run.
Getting nothing done.

I pulled the strings.
Gave you what they were offering.
I called the shots.
And changed them to what you want.
I got things aligned.
And changed them when things went awry.
I put all I had into this.
And I end up with naught but feeling pissed

But still I'll run
I'll run and run and run.
Getting nothing done.

What you want?
What you want from me?
I should say something
But f**k it, that's not me.
These silly words
I'll write them down for me.
Then, when I confront you
The damned offense you'll never see.

This is the last time
I think I'll do a favor
For a friend.
This is the last time
Because these favors
Always seem to end
With me running around,
Me calling around,
And getting nothing done.

Today, I say that I'm done.
No more favors, not for anyone.
But I know the next friend that asks
I'll be helping them out, bustin my a*s.

Just kind of through this one together in five or so minutes because I was in a particularly "spectacular" mood.
Tell me what you think.

I loved it! I know the feeling, because I always want to help out my friends but most of the time nothing really gets done.... This is so relatable! Really great write :]

Great Write and Totally Relatable!! I not only felt the emotion from your words, but it has also brought back feelings and memories of when I too have been used and pushed aside for being to nice and/or friendly!

I know what you are talking about here, oh too well. I feel like I am used for my nice-ness sometimes, because I will do anything for my friends, but I got screwed in the end. A heartfelt write, great job!
