Don't Break my Heart

Don't Break my Heart

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

A song of pleading

"

No, don’t break my heart.
Please, don’t break my heart.
I want it to beat even after you say,
You say it’s over.
You say it’s over.
Even after all is said and done.
So I can start again like nothing is gone.
Please.

Please
Let’s not dance around the issue.
Please
Let’s get straight to the point.
I mean let’s note that nothing has changed
Even though our lives have been rearranged.
Please
Let’s make everything all clear to me.
Please
Let’s make sure that it’s all out in the open.
Be assured that I still feel the same
As I did when we started this game.

No, don’t break my heart.
Please, don’t break my heart.
I want it to beat even after you say,
You say it’s over.
You say it’s over.
Even after all is said and done.
So I can start again like nothing is gone.
Please.

Please
Let me be the weight that keeps your heart ticking.
Please
Let me be the one that catches the tears you cry.
I’ll form them into diamonds in my palms.
And give them to you on a ring, you’ll be my all.

Always.
And forever you’ll be in my mind.
Always
And forever you stop the hands of time.
Always
You take me back to that day.
Forever
You take my mind from grey.

No, don’t break my heart.
Please, don’t break my heart.
I want it to beat even after you say,
You say it’s over.
You say it’s over.
Even after all is said and done.
So I can start again like nothing is gone.
Please.
