Circle of Death

Circle of Death

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

Like Elton John only more tragic

"

Why did you kill him?
I killed him
Because he stole her innocence.
Now, we must kill you.
You kill me
I won’t ask for penance.

You kill
And it’s ok.
Because it’s what they say.
The circle of death
Is ok.
It’s ok.
You kill me
Because I killed him.
When you kill me
My life ends again.
I die for his death,
But you don’t die when you kill the rest.

He had a knife
When he stopped her in the dark.
It wasn’t sharp
But it stabbed her in the heart.
Her wound’s more deep then the one he faced.
The wound he gave will stay all her days.
She told her mom, she told her dad.
They did nothing till the whispers got bad
In court, the lying lawyer, the stupid jury.
He walked past the bars within a hurry.

You kill
And it’s ok.
Because it’s what they say.
The circle of death
Is ok.
It’s ok.
You kill me
Because I killed him.
When you kill me
My life ends again.
I die for his death,
But you don’t die when you kill the rest.

Why did you kill him?
I killed him
Because he stole her innocence.
Now, we must kill you.
You kill me
I won’t ask for penance.

A priest will be there.
He’ll read to me.
He’ll want to know where my soul will be.
I’d like to hear the nice words in his mouth.
But my own hot knife feels to have stabbed them out.
You’ll let the priest stay.
At the end, the church is the state.
You’ll pull the lever, or pump the drug
But Hell, I gave some justice to that girl who was so young.

This is great. I like the short lines, because to me they pack more emotion than long sentences. It is quite poetic and emotional. Good job!
