Here Be Dragons

Here Be Dragons

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

And now I find
that my indecisive mind
just tries to hide
what lies inside
from the world.
The serpent curled
with wings still furled -
just waiting to lash out,
thrash loud,
fly high,
and crash down.
Just wanna bring an end
to all you see -
Everything
that makes me be
someone who
is not me.
So much rage
locked in a cage -
bars of self doubt,
mores to lock down.
What’s left is lame,
shackled by shame
and pent up pain.

Am I what’s inside,
Or am I
the lie
that I hide behind?

Who knew a quiet, chided church mouse
could hold a fire spitting serpent at bay?
If that vermin’s vigil ever pauses,
there’s no telling how the world may pay!

just found this small gem and an impressed Dennis. A great read, full of real insight and questioning.
Just adore the next to last stanza, with its plain-spoken life-altering question. When one asks it, and we all must at some point, the answer is what either redeems us or leads us to the depths of hell,

Would seem you are on the path to redemption

Cheers, Ken
