SPACELIGHT™

SPACELIGHT™

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

I’ve had visions
of my demise
Displayed across
the night sky
Holo-projected
around the room
By the space light
that shines next to you.

Lustrous stars shooting
through my troubled heart.
Constellations write my
faults into the dark.
The great cosmos calls me
to oblivion.
Black holes pull me under
all over again.

Oh why
do I
find it so hard
to close my eyes.
Each time
I lie
I’m taking years
off my life.

Celestial
insomnia -
So sleepless
in the dead of night
My astral
Dream apnea -
I wonder
If I’ll see the light

Maybe one night,
I’ll find sleep once more.
And through the heavens,
I will plot a course.
Unto eternity,
I will land at it’s shore.
And rest forever,
My eyes to open no more.

I suffer from insomnia, although some nights I do sleep more or less normally. Sleep deprivation can be exhausting, and those sleepless nights seem so long! I have also suffered from sleep apnea in the past, though (thankfully) not very recently. An inventive write, using your own experiences and frustrations to create an interesting poem!

Amazing use of description Dennis. You allowed the reader to follow your words and feel/see your description written. The movement of all things must stop. Maybe. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

the mind can go to some crazy places if we let it. ... lack of sleep can even cause hallucinations ... its used as a torture tactic ... sleep apnea can be a serious problem as well as insomnia ... at least your hero is looking to the stars ... the heavens ... black holes and all. :}
