the insomniac’s lament

the insomniac’s lament

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Late night musings
in a cold and quiet bed
Hazily perusing
tired thoughts inside my head
Lifeless melancholy
meets lightless ennui
A constant reckoning
with what it is that’s me

The streetlights flicker
outside blinded window panes
Each night, left to wonder
must we do this yet again?

The insomniac’s lament
A sleepless lullaby
A silent serenade
in darkness
Till at last I close my eyes.

Too relatable and quite rhythmic with its rhymes and cadence. Thanks for sharing, Frederick.

Hard to find sleep. When the mind is busy Dennis.

I understand the above lines. Most nights, I must meditate. Thank you for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.

oh what a tangled mess it can be when we get stuck up inside our heads .. relentless negative feedback loops .. no wonder we can't sleep eh!? enjoyed the smooth rhythm and find the rhyming a delight .. I relate brother ..i fall asleep easily but am up usually by 2 am .... at 72 it is my schedule. Laying there trying for sleep doesn't work for me at all. nice work sir! enjoyed reading
