Protect and Serve

Protect and Serve

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

They've been stretching out the thin blue line
A mallet o' justice for our crimes
Like smoking weed or being Black
Or being poor.  The whip gets cracked.

There's no turning back.
The charges are getting stacked.

Serving, protecting
All their own.
With wire taps
On your phone.

We are occupied.
There's nowhere left to hide.

Charged for fees and fines you couldn't pay
The laws are writ in shades of gray
If you wear blue, you pass on through.
But you'll be caged if you sing the truth.

They will shoot you down.
The badge will serve the crown.

Serving, protecting
All their own.
With wire taps
On your phone.

We are occupied.
There's nowhere left to hide.

Past 16 years. Many freedoms were lost. Protection of forest and park were stole away by Son Bush.
"Charged for fees and fines you couldn't pay
The laws are writ in shades of gray
If you wear blue, you pass on through.
But you'll be caged if you sing the truth."
The above lines are part of new world. New world want people with no energy and passion. I liked the flow of thoughts leading to honest ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
