Rogues galleryA Poem by Dennis ShanabergHumanity has a history Of heralding heretics Who’ve got the language down While the best of us all drown. Hoping for Him to say your name Or look your way in the crowd, As he dresses up his dire dealings With five billion dollar words That he prays you’ve never learned. Secret police would scare in shadows. Now, they simply flout the law. Sanctioned shooting sprees If unjust charges you can’t heed. Guilty till you’ve taken lead. The innocent are all layin’ dead, While the culprit gets thrown parades And a cruiser covered freeway Donning his dirty name. The daily news is perusing The rogues gallery of our choosing, The most villainous among them Are the ones we voted in. We let them make our laws, Offer them our cash. Let them gun us down, As they cover up the past. Hiding truths in the spotlight Hoping that we cannot see And thus fail to fuel their greed. Cuz f**k those who are in need Those they’re supposed to serve, Who’ve worked for all they’ve earned. What do they deserve? But the wrath we should defer… © 2015 Dennis ShanabergReviews
