A Change Before the End

A Change Before the End

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Please, liberate me from this life--

This bronze-plated, ill-fated lie.

Take it apart, I’m begging, please.

I need something new. I’m on my knees.

I feel like I might be disappearing.

The joy I’d found is dissipating.

The end I sense may be nearing.

It is all of yours now for the taking.

I’ve broken down to grains of sand

To be poured away by a hundred hands.

I’ll join the sea indiscernible--

Rising on winds stinging eyes so cruel.

Desert me, or take me far from here.

I cannot stay this way for years.

I require a change of pace or scene

For there’s so much that yet remains unseen.

This should be the beginning of it all.

I should not feel this fateful fall.

The end will come inevitable.

The time it takes is variable.

I should not fear or beg for it now

For it shall come too soon anyhow.

Give me life till that time shall come.

I need it now before all is gone.

All of need something unknown. Just must find it. I could feel the frustration in your words. Sometime we must hope for things to fall or we must create change. Thank you for sharing the powerful and outstanding poetry.
