Pieces

Pieces

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Left to my own devices,

I might divide apart

Into my Id and Ego

And somewhere else my Heart.

The parts of me would fight

To the very death of me,

And in the end, who’d win,

I would never see.

For I am everything

The heinous and the helpful,

A hero and the heretic,

Successfully Unsuccessful.

I revel in the relationship

Between my good and bad,

For in the middle is myself

With the memories I’ve had.

To know me is to see

What you want for me to be,

But to love me you need

To accept each part of me.

You cannot take what you like

For I will not survive.

I am everything together

Fighting inside me for forever.

I love the last two lines especially. I love this poem; we humans have to learn that we cannot be perfect, we have our ups and downs... well penned and good rhymes too

Very wise words my friend. We must accept weaknesses and strengths of the people we care for. No weakness in the outstanding poetry.
