Immortal on Laser Disc

Immortal on Laser Disc

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

This is a picture perfect piece of photorealistic reality tv

Television sets set to replay

The replays in slow motion

Until acted upon by outside forces be with you into the night

It’s always darkest now as the sun sets

The sun is always far below the waters

Worlds without walls for us to dwell.

Deviants are pieces of people that do not fit the norm.

All I see are pieces of people that we all feed on.

Cannibalistic entertainment to feed the masses full

Of farces of reality set to music and scripted for you to see.

Stars in our eyes as we look to the screens

Silver and black and white till they die.

Deaths of all these we never have known make us cry

Coming up tonight at five.

Posthumously honored heroes as Hippocratic hearings are held by all us hypocrites.

Death is dealt with drugs for depressions depressing to death the dead for our delight.

Stained in something red and salty with sticky situations for Star studded stacks.

Prime time tabloids with photos of ticker tape parade floats in tiered-tears of those

Left

Behind

To woe

To know

That they’re loved ones are immortalized

In the stomach minds of those who cannibalized

The very souls of the celebrity who is now canonized

Forever in shelves of half-priced DVDs and soon-to-be Instant NetFlix queues.

Awesome piece, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is fed up with the TV :) It's a crazy world we live in, keep calling it out for what it is, brother.

I like the honest tone of the thoughts in the poem. The above line I liked a lot. funny how we can vision life. Things that were held precious once. Become dirty with time. No weakness in the thought provoking poetry. A outstanding poem.
