This is Now

This is Now

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

an apology and a promise

"

This is a message to everyone around me

To forgive me for my lack of frequency.

My good friends, and all my foes,
Oh-now I will have you all know

That I’m crawling my way back...

To who I was

To who I used to be

And maybe something more

To some kinda awfully awesome monstrosity

With a head full of dreams

No longer held up by those nighttime screams.

Nightmares beware,

Because I’m no longer scared

By the same old things

And all the things that they’d bring.

No, this is my time

To try or to die.

Cuz I have this destiny to fulfill

For everyone who ever said I will

Become someone great or something more

And now to all of them, I now know I’m sure.

I know that there’s something meant for me

Whether with these words I write and try to sing

Or to act/direct till my names in the light of stars

I’m promising myself that I’m gonna go far.

This is pure will.

Sheer force of will.

I will because I will now and forever always have this will

Till I’ve got something and everything and leavin’ it in my will

For everyone whoever got me here

Who believed in my abilities and helped me steer

This sinking ship that I am today

To the shore where I’ll take my break away

From the storms and the clouds that kept me down.

This is it.  This is my time.  This is now.

self actualization works .. what we think is what we get ... and give ;) what stand out most in this one for me is the strong declaration; not only to self but to all those around .. your character has apparently answered one of the big questions ... what is my purpose (career) .. for artists making that plunge is very risky .. not many at all can make a living at it .. no matter the "art" ..but leaping off that edge is something that has to be done or one will never know ... after reading i find myself cheering your protagonist on .. mind over matter ... it happens every time we move even the smallest of muscles ;)

yep .. shore is :)
Good to read your poetry. A honest and strong poem. Each of will struggle. Each of us carry burdens we must live with. I hope to read more of your poetry. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

Your lines, "This sinking ship that I am today
To the shore where I’ll take my break away
From the storms and the clouds that kept me down." are so beautifully written!

Nice job (:
