Thrown Out, But Not Forgotten

Thrown Out, But Not Forgotten

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg
"

On Old Friends...

"

An old friend’s birthday’s today,

But what the Hell do I say?

Haven’t talked to him in too long.

Not since childhood was all gone.

I’ve got too many like that--

Friends that I used to have.

Friends that were so close--

Knowing all there was to know

Before I let them go.

And I let them all go

Eventually.

Consequentially,

I find myself all alone,

But I blame all of those

That I got rid of so long ago.

Pieces of trash that I threw away.

Treasures for others who were willing to pay.

Friends too precious .... Nice piece my Friend:)

Frankly I enjoyed a tearful memory as I read it. I do feel Dennis is a bit too young to fully comprehend just how those old friends, memories and escapades affect older guys like me. However, I understood and empathize with it as I enjoyed the read and took my take on it's message as a lesson I wished I had learned at his age.

I don't know my friend. Friends are the real gold of a life. Hard to make time for old friends. A wise person enjoy time with family and friends when possible. Never know when it will be the last time you will see them. Life can leave us alone. That is a choice. Good to keep old friends near. In the end. Laughter and the good people is what we will truly need in a life. A powerful poem. Many lessons learn in my life. One was to be kind to friends and make time for family. Have fun and be safe. A excellent poem.
