Dear Dorothy's in DenialA Poem by Dennis ShanabergBecause poems with Wizard of Oz imagery aren't cliched at allI get taken up All too easily-- My windswept hair And flighty personality. I’m crushing now Almost everyone-- Happens every time That I come back down. This tornado is Twistin’ me up inside. Oh-- someone please Just wake me up this time. Is it all a dream? --Some say we’ll never know. Technicolor scenes-- That someone else had wrote. The rains pour on me till I melt away. My brains a bag full of so much hay. I’m a coward in sheep’s clothes cry--ing. My heart ain’t ticking. That’s just a clock that’s lying. There’s no place like home! Or so I’m told-- Unfortunately, That’s the only place I have never known. I’ve been clickin’ heels; But I cannot see a change Because the place I want, It just isn’t real. © 2012 Dennis ShanabergReviews
