Burn the Candle

Burn the Candle

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Burn the candle at both ends
Till the wick you lit is long since gone.
Messages your mouth will send
Full of tired words that you said all wrong!
Rings round your eyes in bad shades--
Bruises from the fists of this long life.
You say you'll live tomorrow,
As you survive today on the blade of a knife.
