The One-Man Massacre

The One-Man Massacre

A Poem by Dennis Shanaberg

Another heart in my hands--

(oh--the) plans of mice and men; I squeeze too hard.

Always bow to their demands.

(I’m) lynching all their love; Chests stabbed with shards.

I am a one man massacre

Stabbing the heart of her and her and her.

It’s not what I would ever choose

Cuz everyone I’ve met seems to lose.

Every person I meet

Will fall at the hands of me.

Every person I touch

Comes to hate me so much.

Everyone I love

Leaves when the pushing meets the shove.

I am so alone

Because it’s all I’ll let myself know.

Always say I’ve changed--oh--I’ll be different.

My head agrees, but my heart never meant it.

Please believe me what I say “don’t believe me"

Because my head and heart even deceive me.

A powerful poem. A lot of honest words in the poem. Heart and mind is hard to control when you are young. We will learn to live with many bad decisions.

Life allow us to gain knowledge with age. A strong ending to a excellent poem.
