The boy they called Death

The boy they called Death

A Story by Denis

My life has always been pretty normal its borderline boring if you ask me but that all changed one day; I was cutting through the park after school like I do everyday except today the park was alittle different on this particular afternoon. I saw an elderly man sitting on a park bench which normally I wouldn't pay any mind to but this man had this light or aura that surrounded him. As I started to get closer to him he lifted up his head and stared directly at me; as I started passing him he mumbled something which made me stop and looked at him.
"I'm sorry did you say something?" I asked. He reached over and took a sip from the cup that was sitting next to him on the bench. He cleared his throat before he began to speak again.
"Is your name David Crowely?" His voice was soft.
I took a step back before answering him. "How do you know my name?"
He sat back and asked me to sit next to him. I was a bit hesitant at first but I he seemed harmless and let's face it I didn't have much to do at home anyway.
"I know your name because you are the chosen one to carry on the name."
"Which name?" I asked confused.
"The name of Death of course."
His answer made me rethink sitting next to him. He started going on telling me that every century or so someone is chosen to become the next horsemen and that I was chosen for Death. He told me that once I am given the name, someone will contact me and give me instructions on what i should do next. After he went on and on about what I will have to do and this and that he stood up and told me he had to leave. As I got up to finally head home head extended his hand towards me, when I extended mine and our hands touched I felt a sharp sting but when I went to pull my hand away he pulled me closer to him.
"You have been given the name, now you must bare the mark." He finally let go of my hand and with a scaryingly creepy smile he turned around and starting walking off. I looked at my hand to see if there was a mark there but saw nothing, I looked back up in the direction the old man had walked off in and he was gone.
Later that night I kept thinking about all the stuff the old man had said to me earlier in the day, I started to feel like I was going crazy. I decided to take a shower to ease my mind; after the shower I dried off and wrapped the towel around me before heading back into my room. When I opened the bathroom door and entered my room I noticed that the window that I had closed an hour earlier was now open. I walked over and closed it, as I did I heard a female voice from the other side of the room. "Hello David."
Startled by it I jumped which caused my towel to fall off and land on the floor. "Who the hell are you?"
She stood up and walked towards me, once she got about a foot away from me she said. "You might want to put some clothes on, we have a lot to discuss."
Realizing my towel fell off I quickly covered myself with my hands and walked towards my dresser and grabbed the first set of clothes I could find and headed to my bathroom to get dressed. I hesitated before opening the door hoping this was all a dream. When I entered my room, I looked around and saw no one she was gone.
"About time slow poke." she whispered from behind me. Her voice made me jump again, thankfully this time I was wearing clothes.
"Can you not do that?" I asked as I quickly turned around to face her. Once I turned I could see her more clearly; she was very beautiful. Her dark black hair was long and silky with the most gorgeous green eyes I have ever seen. Before I could continue she stopped me.
"Do you think you can stop looking at my body for a second; we have a lot of things to talk about."
"Oh yea." I laughed nervously. As you can tell I am not very confident around girls not that i'm ugly or over weight, i'm just more of the nerdy loner type.
"Sit down so we can get started." She sat back down the in the chair near across from the foot of my bed.
I turned on the lamp that was sitting on my night stand before sitting on the egde of my bed.
"What is it that we need to talk about?"
She started telling me about the old man I met in the park this afternoon and told me that she is the one that was sent to help me. As she kept talking my head started to get over loaded will all this crazy being death talk.
"Okay wait so you're trying to tell me that that old cuck in the park was telling me the truth? That I am some chosen one to bare the name of death for the next century or so? Last time i checked humans don't live that long."
"When he shook your hand he gave you the mark of death, that allows you to live a lot longer than a normal human."
"Sorry to break it to you but he didn't leave any mark on me." I looked back down at my hand like I did earlier but this time there was a very faint symbol on the palm of my hand. "What the hell is that?"
"Like I said he gave you the mark. Look this is enogh for tonight we will continue this tomorrow. She got up and grabbed my cellphone that was laying on my bed.
"This is my number, I will contact you tomorrow." And before I could even say anything she jumoed out the window and was gone.
