Mysterious Man

Mysterious Man

A Story by Denis

He came across her near lifeless body lying on the cold, icy ground in a pool of her own blood. He knelt down near her, slowly putting his head near her mouth to see if she was still breathing. She opened her eyes and tried to speak but nothing would come out. He didnt know what to do, he knew she was close to death it was only a matter of seconds. He bent over her and held her in his arms to comfort her in her last moments. She tried speaking again but this time she managed to say something, with a soft whisper she asked him ig he believed in heaven. The man never really thought about it before, whether or not he truly believed in a heaven. He looked down at her and with tears falling from his eyes he whispers "I think there is." She looked at him one last time and smiled. Her body grew limp; tears were flowing from his eyes like rivers now, but he didnt move. He never met this woman in his life but he cried over her death like they were childhood friends. When the police arrived, he was still holding her in his arms. They were finally able to pull the man away from the womans lifeless body; they started asking him questions about the woman but he told them he never met her before tonight. The paramedics loaded the womans body into their vehicle and turned around to ak the man one last question but he was gone; a police officer who was standing right next to the man said he couldnt see where the man went because he was blinded by a cars headlights. THe paramedics were confused because they were standing in the middle of the park where no cars headlights could be seen. They searched for the man but couldnt find him anywhere. Years later the cop who was standing next to the man that night was shot in the street. As he layed on the ground he saw a figure walk up to him and kneel down beside him. He looked up and recognized the mans face, it was the same man from that night. It had been 15 years and the man looked the same as he did that night. The man held the officer in his arms and with his dying breathe he asked the man "Do you think there is a heaven?" With a warm smile the man looked down at the officer and whispered, "I know there is."
