Writers are funny. What I mean is people who want to be writers are funny. Anyone who writes is obviously funny in the head. That or they failed math…The odds are against you! The chances of being a successful writer are terrible. Why bother? Why not just get a degree in something useful, like accounting or business? Writing isn’t worth risking your chance of living comfortably. Picture yourself at 35, living with your parents, no car, working at some dead end job, writing on the side. You’re not published yet but you haven’t given up. You’re desperate and alone. Its hard to even talk to your friends from college. They’re the ones who went off and got jobs that actually offer a living. Writing isn’t a living. Writing is for people who are crazy and or ridiculously lucky. If you’re either of those then by all means, try and be a writer. Otherwise for your sake I hope you’ve got some other plan saner than writing. How about being a professional fire eater? Why don’t you become a rodeo clown? Both options are by far, much smarter than trying to be a writer. Run along now and leave the writing to us crazies.
