lol....I so LOVE this piece. Now, mind you, I don't know who the heck Arch Enemy is, but I love a good thrashing noise I can pummel around to. I mean, dance. : ) Gosh you've just brought me back to my first "show" ever. I'd been to big concerts in arenas but I went to a small club in NYC with some friends. Before we even got in the door I witnessed one man in a fetal position on the sidewalk across the street with 5 or 6 guys just kicking the s**t out of him. Inside I watched people run by with holes in their backs. It's safe to say this wasn't a disco! ; ) It was actually Bad Religion/Brains? (yeah-drugs destroy the mind, lol), Leeway and someone else. My first mosh pit ever. God was I claustraphobic. Being a whole 5' tall was not helping. It was quite the experience though. For sure. And I went to plenty more after that!
I love this piece because it says so much about this whole scene. There is so much more to it than people realize. Like you said, it's a release. We all need outlets for our rage lest it comes out at inopportune times. : ) By time the show I spoke of came 'round I had already quit "partying", but the adrenaline rush from being so tightly squeezed next to sweaty strangers and blaring music to mosh to was quite the thrill in itself. Oh...and I remembered the whole show! Not like many before when I'd been using heavily.
It is true, that some crutches offer the sweet release we need from life, but like all crutches, it eventually weakens us until we need them. Moderation is key. I'm not trying to preach, I'm not "sober" anymore exactly....but I'm keeping my rage intact and no animals where harmed in the process!
I actually wrote a poem called "I need to Mosh" back then. I ought to dig that sucker up and post it!
My favorite lines:
Its a will
A way of life
A thrill
Its our obsession
To be drawn into a night far from perfection
This definitely makes sense since I'm a metalhead as well. I could feel my own experiences at shows I've been to as I was reading this. Nice vivid writing!
This is great !! Every one can relate to the teenage rage againts the machine ( sorry for the pun/band ref.). The way it was written makes us feel like being in the pitt with you . Very cool.

this is pretty cool, except for the fact that I listen to christian death metal (there's an oxymoron for ya), but just the same it was cool. Though, i'm not into the whole drinking, heroin, thing...lol
I am not that much into Death Metal (I listen to pretty much everything but that and rap), but this is an excellent piece. Shows the dizzying descent into youth gone wild so to speak. Well done.
My name is Jennifer. I am fifteen years old and I am inspired to be a poet, novelist, songwriter. I play the electric guitar and hope to start a band one day with my music and lyrics. more..
