Guilt

Guilt

A Poem by Summer D.

Guilt

I had a choice; between left and right.

I took a step to where I thought was right.

What I didn’t know.

What I didn’t understand.

Was what they would demand.

I swam without land in sight.

Now, it unravels me.

Slow and shaky.

Till I am nothing more but a thread.

What I thought was right; is no longer in sight.

It is questionable.

No longer tangible.

Once a friend.

Now an enemy.

I see your bags.

They’re awfully full.

Have you come to stay?

Are you just passing through?

Now it unravels me.

Slow and shaky.

Till I am nothing more but an empty spool.

A reminder of what once stood.

Author's Note

Summer D.
A/N: My greatest enemy is myself.
For a girl so easily affected.
So easily saddened.
You’d think that years of this feeling; I’d finally learn how to put a barrier.
I have not the time.. nor patience.. to cover all of my heart.
It’s not easy being sensitive...
in such an insensitive world.
I bet if I tried.
I’d hear the cries of this earth.
As her children plundered her riches and gold.
I bet if I tried.
I’d hear the rumbling of the empty stomachs of children across the world.

It hurts... being so in tune with the world.
It hurts.. caring so much about every darn thing.
From a dead cat too a small earth-worm I nearly crushed. ._.

Guilt.
I will never tell you.
How much I care.
If you hurt me.
If I feel ignored.

I’d rather cradle my non-deserving guilt.
Then have you face your guilt.
The one you rightfully own!

Yay for poetic author notes.

Summer D.

Beautiful and thought-provoking. Even your notes are great. Pain and learning are part of being human, I guess. We just have to find our own joy.
