Once Again

Once Again

Once Again

I enjoy my bouts of depravity

All autumn the voyeur extraordinaire

I’ve watched them change clothes

Green to yellow, and orange, and red

(Red is my favorite, unsubtle, unabashed, undressed)

Now I eavesdrop, hear their titillating gossip

Listen to candid confession, desire and need

They are close to letting go, I know these things

Have some experience you see

The whispers of the strange one they met

In heat

In summer

The one who wrapped up close and slept next to them

Only to awake, disrobe and change

One they alleged of unnatural beauty

Whom they have imitated all fall

The one they watched leave them

And flutter by, away in brief flight

Crispy brown turned orange and erotic black

Hear their envy, I do

Now in a cacophonous symphony they let go

Indulge in brief flight

The ecstasy of the moment

Now gasping on the ground

In the arms of Gaea

Sleeping for as many years as it takes

To do it once again

With me there to watch

Once again

Very nicely done as is all your work
I prefer Spring to all.
To me, Autumn suffers from heading in the wrong direction and I don't appreciate cold/rain/snow
But your poem reinforces how much I enjoy the transformation of the leaves with their extensive variety of colors

This is an interesting spin on how one would view the happenings of autumn. Unique.

Nicely written, to personify such events helps us connect to the "voyeur" in us all! Loved "in the arms of Gaea" line, as I didn't know who Gaea was until I looked it up. Learned something new. Thanks!

We are all unique in our own ways. You are a gifted writer in your own flavor. You are welcome .
An interesting lens to observe the change of season with. I love the wordplay here. Your whimsical use of metaphor reminds me of poets of old. Nice work.

Clever and unique, this poem may lead to an increase in walks through the park during the fall foliage extravaganza.

I am glad to see you read it.
May you (and I) be around to practice such voyeurism many. many more times. This is a novel way of observing autumn, that's for sure. Now, springtime--that's a time of absolute shamelessness.
