With Apology to…Basho

On Destiny

Pine straw in her beak

Motherbird,  nest weaver, works

Patient cat awaits

Another Opinion of Spring

Cold snow has fallen,

White over mantles the green.

Youth?  But a memory.

My daughter and I wrote a few haiku poems this evening. about spring.
I'll have to show her yours and see what she thinks :)

It seems the common thread between the two is the pending doom.
The clutches of the cat, the clutches of old age. A looming threat.

And then of course we have the birth in the one, new life and the aging of the other, life leaving.
Is that what they call juxtaposition when you have to extremes presented by side?

I guess the conclusion I am drawing is that I like them both and can interpret their meanings in different ways.

And silly me, I had to google Basho and I am so happy I am walking away with a bonus nugget from your writing. Enjoyed. :)

"Cold snow" good to remember it's cold to the reader. I like.

Basho would be proud of these elegant haikus, you have honored the art form. Actually, they both very much read like his. Elusive meaning and cause for thought, a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Basho himself would uncap your pen and hand it to you.

Nice to meet you, Delmar! I have three cats, so I'm quite partial to the first one, but I immensely enjoyed them both. Haiku's and Senryu's are a wonderful form of expression. Much enjoyed!

When memory is still working that is.
On destiny indeed! our works look on with licking chops!

All good work and intentions can be destroyed by a patient narcissist.

I am old and close to death.

Ok. My interpretations are not as eloquent as your scribbles, but I feel it is my duty to make light of your work in the vain hope that it will bring a smile to your grouchy face. You're welcome.

These are good, Cooper. Being of a certain age, I was especially moved by the second one.
Seems as though I revisit the memories of the past more and more often now.

“Of certain age”, and how are things on the ice floe? Bracing? Thanks for the comment.
