War Correspondent

A Poem by Delmar Cooper
"

The usual and semi-required Spring poem dutifully written and posted.

"

War Correspondent

Like sixty-eight and Tet, only local and now

Our man from the front confirmed this somehow:

“Overnight The Maple Seed Corps coptered down

Satellites confirm  they cover the disputed ground”

Experts concur: This scheme underway;

Recover to True Color ( A Times published story).

Maple flags, red and gold, returned to glory

By late October (if the plan holds sway),

Then “Home by Christmas”, as the soldiers say.

My maples have yet to copter. In fact, we had 70's yesterday, 50's today, and it's going to be in the 20's and 30's tomorrow. It's fake spring season. I know this poem is kind of written tongue in cheek, but it almost sounded like something Kortas would have written. Maybe it was the double use of parenthesis that ticked something off in my brain. Nice tight rhymes. I'm sure I'm missing something, but at this moment I still think it is an entertaining poem that will hold up.

Clever, clever use of words, took me two reads. then the ex-landscaper me suddenly realised what you mean by the' Maple Seed Corps coptered down' - they certainly do! Not saying too much, others need read..but even that finish fits! An academic post, this.

Not so clever if I inflicted a second read, but I'm so glad you did make that effort.
