Everyone has experienced a broken heart, and everyone has experienced the feeling of empowerment as they recover from the darkness.

 Web of Deceit

Oh that tangled web you weave,

Your words as soothing as a gentle breeze.

A rose amidst the thorny brush,

Waiting for that unsuspecting hand to reach,

To be pierced by the thorns and draw life’s blood.

Your words kindly,

To cruelly ensnare my heart.

Your words sweet,

To take my breath and leave me with no air.

Yet your plans as tangled as a spider’s web,

Me the fly trapped and tangled within the silken cords.

For the sweetness of your words changes as easily as a snake strikes,

Becoming the ugly two-headed dog of jealousy.

No trust.

No respect.

You walk with your own agenda,

Head held high,

Knowing that which you do not know

Leaving me to flutter in the breeze

As helpless as a newborn babe,

Guilty of only speaking my mind and my heart.

Oh that tangled web you weave.

The choking vines crawling up the largest and most powerful tree,

The flower of love blossoms on the vine choking the tree,

The plot to destroy the uniqueness of that life slowly and calculated,

Invisible to all but those who know of the impending destruction of the tree.

Like the viper moving towards its prey,

Its glittering body glistening in the dew,

Beautiful undulating movements to watch,

And yet the strike too fast to be seen, and poison as deadly as a broken heart.

Or the lioness, the huntress on the African plains,

Crouched with her belly to the ground,

Invisible to all who glance,

But stalking the ibex with determination,

Her pounce as deadly as a knife,

Bringing swift death to the Ibex,

Its life-blood pouring out and she tears into its flesh

While the ibex lives its last moments in agony and heartbreak.

Oh the tangled web you weave.

My heart lost to you,

My mind a swirling rampage of thoughts and fears.

Your words holding me bound,

Like chains of heavy iron and steel.

Once more you weave your words,

Once more you capture my heart and soul.

Once more tears fill my eyes,

Once more I wonder what I have done,

To be caught within

That tangled web

You say one thing,

Yet do another.

You act one way,

Then change abruptly as soon as you feel the need.

Ever the jealousy an angry cat,

Back arched and hissing angrily at me.

Oh the Tangled web you weave

Bringing forth the truth of the web.

How did I allow myself to be trapped,

Bound so tightly within the web?

Each movement and struggle bringing about a tighter hold on me.

I who know better,

I whose heart will break,

I who let you trap me within your web of deceit.

After years of lessons of being trapped and hurt,

One might think I would have learned,

Your web as visible as air to me.

And time after time,

Chance after chance,

I find myself back within your web,

Trapped.

Alone.

Bound by your silken threads that are stronger than steel.

Until I learn.

Again and again.

And stop hoping for the best,

Start expecting the worst.

Oh that tangled web you weave,

To escape your silken cords,

To avoid the heartbreak and pain.

To escape your tangled web,

I must be strong.

I must leave.

I must destroy the web.

That tangled web you weave.

I am strong,

I am whole.

I will not fall within that web,

I know now what I should have known forever.

I must be strong,

I must leave.

I must find who I am once more,

And unwind myself from the tangled web you weave.

I must become free,

And now we must go our separate ways,

For I cannot be trapped within the tangled web once more.

No more forgiveness.

No more explanations.

No more arguments.

It is the end of the tangled web you once wove,

And the end of the love I still feel.

It is the end of the tangled web.

Becoming the ugly two-headed dog of jealousy.
No trust.
No respect.
You walk with your own agenda,
Head held high,

Now this is a powerful piece of poetry here, and so well written and I love these lines so truthful.
