Survivor

Survivor

A Poem by Absentee Reality Check

Her gentle tissue paper wrinkles

write out the syllables of her life.

You think you could read her history

in full, if you could completely parse

the curvature of laugh lines printed

by tallied years. But secrets lie trapped

like veins, under skin, indelible

tragedy bound in five digits stretched

from where she grew into her freedom.
