![]() Westward SailingA Poem by Kieran Hamilton![]() Based partially on the tale of Elwing from Tolkien's The Silmarillion.![]()
Upon still banks were seaweed tendrils thrill, in shallow waters basking in sun's warm glow.
She lay and wondered, loudly dreaming, of lands beyond the glance of light. Where swans did sail, quietly gliding hidden paths that slip between, nether shores and waves a-breaking guided by the winds of hope. Softly softly in the gloaming, on the path of daylight fading, golden road of dreaming passage Where thoughts lay drifting, wending westward. Strife behind her, wars a-breaking, elder homes are fading, falling, Golden woods turned to umber, copper, white trunks stained with rains red blood. Tasks accomplished, new powers gaining, Green leaves spreading whispering life Stars ashimmer, whispering dirges, old light falling, ages passing Breezes floating, coastward creeping, scent of sea and salt and home Pass me by the earth so fleeting, it is westward we do sail. Sighing softly in the silence, days dreaming wakened by a call Of ship departing, prow faced westward, where her dreams do die and live. © 2015 Kieran Hamilton |
