A pinch of real love

A pinch of real love

A Poem by Peter

A pinch of real love is all we need

The inner self has to be present
to truly care for someone
to feel someones touch is temporary
to touch the inner persons emotions is forever
do any of us know just what is the meaning of true love

the first time I saw her was my first breath of fresh air

she taught me how to make the scent of a blossom pass through my lungs
             and fill my heart
a simple smile from her sweet face opened the door to my soul

The first glimpse of her was burned into my thoughts my heart and my whole soul

A strand of hair falling passed her forehead kissed her che and lay asleep on her shoulder

a mouth that could only form sounds gentle as a warm wind
hands soft and heavenly to hold
and no combination of words are beautiful enough to describe her eyes

A fleeting moment was all I had to carry my through decades of loneliness
I looked here and found nothing
I looked there and was left wanting
All I found were empty eyes, empty souls, empty words
Passion is a short moment in time
Followed by loneliness that can last for an eternity

Fools that we are, we find gold dust and we throw it to the wind
no mater how we try we can never gather it again

All i could do for years after
miss her gentle hand a hand that caressed  and held me tight
If only I could have a brief glance from her, it would fill me for years to come
it would carry me through the darkness of night till the first rays of morning sun

today after all these years, the face that bound me is fading from my thoughts
I don't remember the color of her eyes
those eyes! those eyes! beautiful eyes larger that the ocean
like a drowning man I cling to that long lost love
a love that long ago withered like the leaves of fall
those memories are starting to set! set like the sun and replaced by the darkness that follows
my memories! my heart! will last only until the last ray of light has faded
faded hidden behind that ocean that swallows the warmth of sun night after night
leaving us in the cold with no comfort from the dark.

It's hard to imagine how you could possibly forget the color of someone's eyes, years after embracing their memory. It's like losing them all over again, bit by bit...their scent, their eyes, even the cognizant sound of their voice and laughter. You've penned this quite well, Peter...I hope love returns to you to stay.

This story really spoke to me. The memories we hold for the people we let into our life and find ourselves falling for. This was really beautiful.

Thank you Olivia I really appreciate your review. I agree with your thoughts completely.
Such a powerfully romantic write. "like a drowning man I cling to that long lost love" WOW....the depth of emotion is amazing here. We cling to memories and often make them rosier than they actually were, but they are ours and they comfort us. Beautifully written. Lydi**

Honest and from the heart of the soul. It is almost like a letter of the chest that all together become a beautiful poem...sad at the end, and still wonderful. I truly love it!
Well done, Peter...And welcome to WC ;-)

Thank you! And you are very welcome, Peter! :-)
How poignant and heartbreaking; full of loss. I cannot begin to imagine loss on a scale as to pen words of such torment; however, it doesn't seem possible that if I did lose the one I love so dear that I could ever not see their face again when I closed my eyes. It would be that hope, of seeing them in my mind's eye, when I think of them that would carry me forward until I could let them go and regain my own peace of mind. Your poem was very well written, Peter, and if based on true heartbreak, I sincerely hope that you find peace again soon--and love. All the best to you in life, and in your writing -- Barb
