puddle and pedestal

puddle and pedestal

A Poem by A.M. Nelson

pedestal into puddle--

 muddy face and fingers splayed
pressing into the soft loam;
the earth.

we yearn, we yearn to be still.
we love, we love be loved
and tall above the leaves
and fallen figs that scatter
about the dew-pearled blades of grass.

that muddy faced we learn, we learn,
of mud and the shape of things
to come.
