A Cup of Tea...

A Cup of Tea...

A Poem by Dani-ips

Years ago on the lane walked,

I would have my book in my lawn,

And glad at this lady from over the fence,

Who’d sit and wait under the lamppost each dawn.

I, confused with the abrupt sight,

Of a lady so lively, yet alone,

Her eyes would often shed, a tear or two,

Shivering out her fragile body as she would moan.

I think she lost a faithful lover,

I thought it was a matter of shame,

I dwindled my mind upon it,

Or if she once was down on fame.

Her charm was like a soothing fire,

Her old eyes were still crystalline,

But her heart had become hard,

She had never shown a happy sign.

But for once I had to ask after all these years,

From where she was, how was her start,

How she managed to look so gloom,

Did she still regret and at dawn fall apart?

“Madam, please may I hold your hand?”

Her soft touch lingered and her eyes lifted up,

The steps she took were far too small,

Her each breath was a heavy puff.

I walked as she guided me,

And we reached her abode after all,

She asked me to sit and wait,

Gave me a grinny eye roll.

I could see her crawling down the stairs,

Struggling with her gown and her feet wet with dew,

She was far to grey to speak up,

But mouthed a ‘thank you’.

As we sat on the hearth, she told me her part, from her family she did that years ago,

To face the glam and be a star, it was too late as she had reached so far,

She missed her son who would say " “one day, when the sun hasn’t risen, I’ll come and show how I brightened and if you call out to me loud, I’ll stay with you, he vowed”.

Now she smiles an stuffs in her pain,

Wondering every moment where could he be,

And she told me this over a cup of tea....
