Boy on a Side Street

Boy on a Side Street

A Poem by D.I.
"

I almost knew him.

"

Boy on a side street,
Shoulders slumped, mis’rable eyes,
I almost knew him.
He talked to me of
apathetic fools, angst and
recited poems.

Boy on a side street,
Delinquent and unrefined,
Wove lyrics from tears.
Loveless and needed
a monopedal embrace,
I offered a hug.

Boy on a side street,
Caught in postmodernism,
Suburban decay.
A stereotype,
Dysfunctional emotions,

He lacked empathy.

Boy on a side street,
Labelled like an expired
can of chicken soup.
Black sheep of the herd,
Of course, he preferred the words
just misunderstood.

I thought to myself,
He was just another boy
walking a side street.
And I was a girl
from his distant memories,
Almost forgotten.

i like the way the words interconnect, my favorite is

"Labelled like an expired
can of chicken soup."

and actually, i have myself been accused of being emo.

It is just another label....misunderstood but full of creative wonder, looking at the world through different eyes~

I'm starting to have a decent respect for the idea of Emo. It is an acceptance of ones sensitivities and there is nothing wrong with that. Your poem expresses it well.
