I SeeA Poem by Deepa RagunathanAn ode to all those people on the streets who inspire by simply being.
I see you in the parking lot,
Bobbing your head to that song. I see you lost in thought, Your shirt buttoned up wrong. I see you buying groceries, Staring longingly at the ice-cream. I see you close your eyes at the breeze, I even see you in my dream. You think you are just a commoner, An average human who is smitten, But you are a star yet to cause a stir, A bestseller waiting to be written. I see you on the bus to college, I see you walking, eyes glued to a phone. You will live forever on my page, Even if you are accident-prone. I see you wherever I turn, I see you everywhere I go. You don't know what all I learn, One glance at you, I just know. You think you are just a commoner, An average human who is smitten. But you are a star yet to cause a stir, A bestseller yet to be written. So that is what I will do for you. I will breathe live into paper and ink, Giving you a story gifted to a few, Making you the superhero you think. I see you, and the hero within, I see you for the damsel you are. I see you for the inspiration you bring, So I make you a Knight in a racing car. You see, I see you better than yourself, I see the words flowing in your veins. I see in you a book for my shelf, Writing it down is all that remains. You can think you are an ordinary face, But you don't see what I do, do you? Because you are my epilogue and preface; My pen starts dancing over paper anew. © 2016 Deepa Ragunathan |
