Who Is This?A Poem by Lilly LyleA poem about putting yourself aside.
As a living, breathing, human being. I am free. As a law abiding citizen, politically, I am free. I choose where I live, where I work, who, how, and where I love. Socially, I am free:
Here, here in this place, I am not free. Young and beautiful Alive and electric Soul surpassing age A personality eclectic Creative and happy Thoughtful and brave Compassionate and true Yet merely a slave I only see four walls Never outside fire I envy those who live But it's a sin to desire A relationship like a cage Covered with a sheet of love Masked from the outside world Leaving these walls-unheard of I often sit in silence I wait til he's asleep To write, to breathe, to dream Because nothing's mine to keep I honestly love so sincere That I'm afraid to let it go But I miss the person I was And hate the self I've come to know. © 2015 Lilly Lyle |
