Absence is Anguish

Absence is Anguish

A Poem by Floydina White

If absence makes the heart grow fonder
And you’ve been gone so long
Why am I suffering so much
And why does this all feel so wrong?

My heart doesn’t feel any fonder
My heart is anything but fine
With your scarcity, my heart has become heavy
And has set itself to pine.

Oh severance! Oh sorrow!
I need not your amity
What I need, I cannot acquire—
Nothing short of calamity!
