Masquerade

Masquerade

A Story by DecentlyOkayWriter
"

When real life blends into the dance

"
Let's go on a masquerade, pretend we aren't real
Dance for ages until we lose our breath
We'll pretend we're fine while we dine on hors d'oeuvres and act like it's a meal
Hide our faces we deem bad, behind a big pretty mask, so we don't feel insecure
Trash our brains with silly names like 'worthless' and 'fat'
Pretend we like this stupid game, hiding the maimed mental health behind twinkly smiles
When we get home we'll take off our gowns, and put them away, until we have another okay-ish day
And we can masquerade again.
But don't you worry, we keep on those beautiful masks of ours.
In part because we don't trust you, but mainly because we don't trust ourselves
Let's masquerade together, at the Ball of Lies.
We won't spill the other's secrets, because they're partially our own, to keep away from prying eyes.
"I'm fine, let's dine!" the main chorus of the day.
When the clock strikes 5, we've got to head home, we're still on curfew, you see.
We're just 'kids', but we know the dance of "I'm fine." and  "Leave me be."
Let's masquerade,  at the Hall of Untold Truths.
We'll ditch our masks, and do our tasks, see how long we can last.
Soon we'll put them back on.
Let's masquerade forever.
