Societies Child

Societies Child

Societies Child

A child is born in poverty.

And this child lives in misery.

Societies child learns to hate.

cause poverty is a terrible fate.

As the child grows to an adolecent stage.

He finds you can't live on minimum wage.

For awhile he tries to live this way.

But his day and nights are again cold and gray.

A so called friend introduces him to crime.

But then he gets busted and has to do some time.

Another friend hands him a gun.

So he’ll take your money and then he’ll run

Society ask why he is this way?

They don’t understand, that’s why they say.

But society made this man what he is,

They’ve shaped and they’ve molded the way he lives.

People say he’s crazy or wild,

But it’s just a way of life for Societies Child...

This is a very moving piece... There are many broken homes in this town (and in my family...) and two of my cousins are prime examples of society's children (both unable to take care of their own and both in and out of jail, one in prison currently). Very good write.

Nice..I find that in our town a lot of thee children are those being raised by a single parent or where two parents work and are never home..I was borm into povety and did not react like this thanks to my dad who dwas strict but a just strict..Graduation was stressed and also was a curfew..friends that were not decent morally were forbidden to have over or hang around..and..no true friend hands someone a gun!! Love and God bless Valentine

you make a great point, one a lot less likely to be taken to heart than it is worth. Seems everyone feels welcome to pass judgement and reluctant to take blame. I think the wording is great and it reads like a very pointed, yet solem story. I think the rhyming is fitting. Overall a great write. Good job!

How sad but true of today's world in which we must live. Good write.

this was a good poem with a great message. the one thing that i didn't like was that it ryhmed. for some reason i think the ryhming gave this very serious and emotional poem a juvenial tone, which isn't fitting at all.
other then that, i loved this poem.

Its all so true Debbie. Why is it that some of us are so lucky and others don't stand a chance in hell?
