The Ghost Of Love
A Poem by Debra Stevens Edwards (Debby)

The Ghost of Love(3)

Love has a shadow,
A ghost you could say.
It follows and stalks you
Each night and day.
Forget if you can
Repent if you must.
It's a taunting thing
You cannot trust.
Tortured by memories
Of beautiful things.
you'll soon hate it
and the tears it brings.
Dreams as cold fingers
Clutching your heart.
Or the glimpse of Your
face there in the dark.
Memories like that of
A spectre's touch.
A pain as in death
hurts you so much.
So beware my friend,
When love walks in.
For the ghost of love,
May haunt you again...

Wow I love this poem. It's so powerful and so, so true. Love does have a shadow, doesn't it? I never thought of it that way. I can wake up remembering a love I had 20 years ago just like it was yesterday, and it's the 'ghost,' isn't it?

Thank you for suggesting I read this. It's my day off, finally, and I want to eat poetry all day long, and yours was the first course! It got me started, or else I might have done something else.

This is a great piece of poetry. the rhyme works well. My favourite line is:
Dreams as cold fingers
Clutching your heart.
Well done. NH

Wow, to be chased by that ghost, who said it is better to have loved and lost.
This is beautifully done and wonderfully rhythmic.

this poem is completely gorgeous. Everything in here about love is completely true which really helps the reader to relate to your words. It's short and to the point which I also love. Keep writing your great!

Very good description...I liked how the rhyming worked as well...your use of metaphor flows well with the tone of the poem. I don't know if this was intentional, but even the shape works well to convey that feeling. So good job all around, I didn't really see anything to critique.

Oh, this is really excellent! The Ghost of Love! What a superb and original title, and poem! Past (and present) loves, come to think of it, really are like a ghost. Their memories follow and haunt one in the past and in the present, and when awake or in dreams. Outstanding work, lovely lady!

Woh, incredibly brilliant choice of words u use in describing the memories of a love/long lost love/love gone bad. The thoughts and feelings lurk deep inside, and gives us a powerful reminder that those memories are not gone, but remain as ghosts in the enigmatic conscience of our minds. Just a small spelling error tho- 'Specter'- think ya meant 'Spectre' hehe-

Very Poignant Piece. Beautiful Picture As Well!
