Rivers Of My Mind

Rivers Of My Mind

A Poem by Debra Stevens Edwards (debby)

Rivers Of My Mind

Memories dance softly through the rivers of my mind,

While I search for reasons, answers, I cannot ever find.

As remembering passions that nearly take my breath away,

Waiting for you as I dream of us twenty-four hours a day.

You whisper that you love me and my frozen heart will melt,

Knowing that the things we share most have never really felt.

Then we drift off to heaven inside each others loving arms,

On clouds of pleasures and passions powered by your charms.

Soothed gently by the waters moving flow in the rivers of my mind,

On those days when I cannot reach out when life has been unkind.

Just wondering, the first verse, Is there an explanation for 'dancing in the rivers of my mind'? Dancing doesnt fit with the river metaphor. The rest was great, Its very down to earth and would sound great in a Valentines Card, believe me i know i produce them and this is definitely one!!!

I really dug this poem, D. (May I call you that?)
It's sincere and warm...
Made me say "awww" out loud.

The title of this one appealed. Water is often seen to represent emotion one way or another. And the emotion and the flow of the poem here is soft and gentle...a happy poem reflecting a happy state of love bliss. And I agree love is a bulwark against the shocks of the world without. My favourite line is 'on clouds of pleasures and passion powered by your arms'. I also liked the gentle rhyme scheme which works well. And the long line lengths add to the feeling of gentle flow.

I like this poem quite a bit for a couple of reasons. One is your ability to add rhyme without muddling each line with unnessecary words/phrases. Two being the explainations of explaining your mind to be many rivers. I've always found it most enjoyable and true when the mind and anything else that is human (like emotion for example) is portrayed with nature, like you used forms of water in this poem.

Beautifully written.

Well penned....it flowed smoothly (pun intended) :-)

I'll have to thank my friend Nuala for sending this along....what a nice poem to read, and I love the title....very good imagery here.

This is absolutely blissful, Nuala! Nothing quite like the arms of the one you love...or even the concept of being in them again....after a long hard day. The longing is very real...very honest....very passionate. Beautifully written. lydia

This is really touching and tender. You have a special way of writing that brings peace in otherwise sad situations. Your love really spills out, like the water you speak of. Great connection and the picture with this is perfect. Thank you for the escape with your poem today. I'm keeping it in my library!

I loved this piece. It also made me realize something I hadn't thought of, and that's how often writers somehow connect love, or the feeling of love, with water. Whether it's a mountain stream, or a vast ocean, we like to draw them together, my self included. Beautifully written. Rain..
