A Poem by Debby Pillitteri

And if I fall asleep
With tears in my eyes tonight
Know I'm not hiding my pride
Stop thinking I'm lying
And believe I'm just right
Smiling and crying with dreams,
I will fight
To hold you and miss you
And whisper so clear
That love hasn't escaped
And with space,
I'm here

To wrap you and continue my fighting for you
To keep you inside of this cloud you live near
Above my fluffy blanket and the plane in the sky
Know I'm looking down at you, this one single time
And reflecting on images of you and your smile
The way that you look and what you're doing the while
I presume I can't sit and depress over you
But instead,
Make a dream of white paint
And thorned lollipops
Come true

Of a key you grip tight and await to unlock
When I'm home and looking in your blue eyes of a
Mess you attempt to clean up
But here in your room, I came here for you
And try not to fall fast in my confusion of thought
Lose no hope that I will return
Cause soon, my love, the haze will form again
With the sand sticking to your soft skin
You remind me of it, again and again

And so I count down to every hours remaining
The seconds, the days
The time that I'm waiting
The first and only person I'm willing to see
Risking it all, just for you and for me
The tighter my hands get, the nervous I am
And hoping you haven't given up on our plan
And every time you fall asleep, including tonight
If your tears spill out,
Reflect on images of me
And my smile
The way that I look and what I'm doing the while

And forget not everything
