Ladder of Success

Ladder of Success

A Poem by Death's Poet
"

Kind of humorous poem, I don't believe in ' getting to the top the hard way' but a friend had said something of a woman she knew who did this so I wrote a poem about it

"
If success is a ladder
Everynight another rung

Each day hard at work
Each night a sirens song she sung
Lovers in the night
Coworkers in the day

With lace, pearls and lipstick
She'd make things go her way
They meant nothing to her
Nothing, except success

Promotions, raises, bonuses
Meant nothing but "Undress"
Labeled with a scarlet letter
On her methods others  frown

Oh well, She knew the best way  up
Was sometimes to  lie down

I like this Shadow Poet. Another string to your bow - Wit and wordplay and 'pleasing to the eye' formatting. It is an observational write without judgement - the best type, Imho. Reminded me of that great film from the 90's 'Disclosure'. Dunno how much of that goes on these days but I did see male colleagues of mines practice soft flirting to get their way with a female boss we had - it worked - a lot. Dont think they were going the whole way but it was the tip of this iceberg you painted here.

Interestingly my eye was drawn to the last word of every line and I thought that could be a good example of 'found poetry' :

Ladder rung
Work; sung.

Night, day
Lipstick way.

Her success -
Bonuses... undress.

Letter - frown
Up, down.

A powerful message, it's shameful how some people get blinded by the glitter of success which is a mere illusion, For what's in success without respect. A wonderful piece!

I really love this. To me it shows a bit of the corruption of the business word and how even if you work hard it not not enough. I think it show a deep message.
