Lemons

Lemons

A Poem by D. Earl Barnes

It may not seem obvious because of how I grit my teeth,
But my emotions run oh so very deep
So deep that at the age of 10 I was loosing sleep.
By 12th grade year I had buried them deep underneath
Drinking beers and smoking green,
Growing hatred for the world as I joined in with the sheep.
Have I forgotten how to love?
Have I forgotten how to weep?
Have I forgotten who I was?
Was I ever truly me?

The poem had a honest tone. We can see life with hope or hope can be killed off. We can find peace in the drugs and the booze. The poem said a lot. I like the ending. I like poetry that leave the reader with a question. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

If one gives in to follow the "sheep" instead of standing on their own feet and going their own way...who can they blame but themselves. Valentine
